| Herndon, VA – Januray 22, 2009 - REI Systems (REI) announced today that they are a part of the ITS-QNA Team, awarded the USDA APHIS-PPQ ePermits Contract. The scope of the effort includes Development Modernization & Enhancements (DME), Program Management, Data Migration and Technical Support for various systems at APHIS PPQ. The ITS-QNA Team was awarded a 1 year prime contract, with 2 option years and a ceiling of $36.8M. The new contract will support the information technology initiatives initiated in support of the overall APHIS objectives - to provide fully integrated, robust, agile and flexible systems. These systems will be used primarily by APHIS PPQ but will also be used by other APHIS components, including Veterinary Services (VS), Biotechnology Regulatory Services (BRS) and Investigative and Enforcement Services (IES). The mission of Animal & Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) is to protect America's animal and plant resources by safeguarding resources from exotic invasive pests, noxious weeds and diseases; Monitoring and managing agricultural pests, noxious weeds and diseases existing in the United States; Resolving and managing trade issues related to animal or plant health; and Ensuring the humane care and treatment of animals. Within APHIS, Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) safeguards agriculture and natural resources from the risks associated with the entry, establishment, or spread of animal and plant pests, noxious weeds and diseases. Fulfillment of its safeguarding role ensures an abundant, high-quality, and varied food supply, strengthens the marketability of U.S. agriculture in domestic and international commerce, and contributes to the preservation of the global environment. “We have been supporting the USDA APHIS mission since 2002 and are delighted to expand our support for this agency.” says Veer Bhartiya, President, REI Systems. “The new technology initiatives undertaken as part of this contract will enable APHIS to optimize their business processes, infuse innovation, and provide agility and flexibility to respond to emergencies, changing laws and regulations.
